Sunday 7th February - Fielding
A good start to the 2010 cricket season.
The first session was all about getting back into cricket
again after a long break with some basic fielding skills.
Getting the basics right is important, and once memories had
been refreshed, there was some very good fielding on
display.
Fielding is a massive part of cricket, 50% of a player's
game is spent in the field so it's vital to learn and
practice the skills. Winning teams are always good fielding
sides. If a team can get a couple of wickets with good
fielding through catches and run outs, its less work for the
bowlers to get the wickets; if they can save 10 runs then
that's 10 less the batters have to get. So remember to do
the basics well and most importantly enjoy fielding. Its
much easier to be a good fielder if you enjoy fielding.
Lets keep working hard in these sessions and
have an excellent season in 2010 for all age groups and
hopefully get some reward for all the effort shown by
getting some silverware to put in the trophy case in the
clubhouse.

Session Tips
Attack the ball,
don't just let it come to you.
When picking up the
ball keep your eyes on it until it's in your hands.
Use the front arm as
a guide when throwing the ball, use it to point towards
the target.
Focus on the target,
relax and throw, you may have more time then you think
in a run-out situation.
Make sure that you
get the elbow of the throwing arm above the shoulder
thus enabling a good strong throw.
Aim to get the ball
back over the stumps into the wicket keeper or bowler.
Work hard and enjoy
fielding. If as a batter or bowler you're not
getting runs or wickets good fielding helps you get
picked!
