April 2010 - Electricity Generation - UPDATE

The first phase of the club's application to install a wind turbine on site has been successful.  A grant for approximately half the sum required from the Department of Energy & Climate Change has been approved.  The next phase of the project involves an application for planning and landlord permissions.  Should these permissions be forthcoming we will then apply for grants for the balance of the sum required from various sources.  The next phase will take a minimum of ten weeks and we will of course keep you up to date.More on Electricity Generation....

A warm welcome to this season's overseas player, Jarrod Martignago.  Jarrod, nickname "Neville", joins us from Camberwell Magpies, Melbourne, Australia.  Camberwell Magpies play in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition their best known recent player is the former Test batsman, Matthew Elliott.  Jarrod is an opening bat and wicket keeper who lists his likes as music, Kaiser Chiefs, Pigeon Detectives and Cut Copy, and a beer (or two!) and dislikes animal cruelty.  Best of luck to Jarrod for the forthcoming season and welcome to Spofforth!

February 2010 - Electricity Generation

The cost of electricity supply to the club is currently one of our major overhead costs, approximately £1200 per annum.  We are in the last year of a three year contract with our current supplier and bearing in mind the uplift in costs per KWh over the past two years we can expect a significant increase in any future tariff offered by the electricity generators.

One possibility that we have recently been made aware of is that of generating our own source of electricity through the on-site installation of a wind turbine.
