Junior Section

Cricket Development

Spofforth Cricket Club has been at the forefront of junior development in the area for some time and it was not surprising that the club grasped the initiative to apply for and complete the "Clubmark" accreditation before a lot of other clubs decided it was right for them.
The club has taken the welfare of its junior members seriously and wanted to emphasise this in the best possible way. "Clubmark" accreditation has allowed the club to develop and identify several areas that they can improve on, whilst not forgetting its commitment to providing a safe, child friendly environment for youngsters of all ages to be involved within the game of cricket..
I am so pleased that Spofforth Cricket Club has become the first club in North Yorkshire to achieve the accreditation level and with it the opportunity to carry the "Clubmark" logo on all its literature and promotional material, they will now have the basis to continue to move forward for many years to come and the opportunity to tie in commitment with the Local Authority and College partnerships which will, hopefully, secure continued support from young players around the area.

Review of 2004 Season

With record numbers Friday evenings were once again very busy. All the children had a very useful and enjoyable experience in a safe environment.
Alongside the regular coaching sessions, five teams have also been in action during the season.
The under 9s had once again loads of enthusiasm, but lacked experience and unfortunately had several games cancelled by the opposition.
The under 11s had the same problem - matches cancelled - and faced good opposition in others. The "senior" members of the team did at least get some cricket playing for the under 13s
The under 13s made a good start and finished 4th, and in the most exciting game of the season lost by only 7 runs to Bardsey, the eventual champions. Tom Lees made an excellent contribution with both bat and ball and there were good all-round performances from Alex Palmer, Jamie Bruce, Jonathan Moxon and George Barton.
The under 15s had a strong squad and had a good season ending the season 4th. Oliver Connew had an exceptional time with bat, averaging 38 and Jonathan Ross was not far behind. Josh Nicholson and Mark Selves took most of the wickets.
The under17s, consisting mostly of under 15s, struggled. Oliver Connew was the most successful batsman with two 50's and David Deyermond also scored a maiden 50. Our best wishes go to Andrew Curtis, Julian Everett and Steven Trueman who have now graduated from the Juniors.
Finally my thanks to all coaches, team managers and parents and especially Sheila Roberts who keeps the whole section in order.
