Club History

Spofforth are the longest serving club in the first division of the Wetherby League having been in the top flight uninterrupted since 1961.
The Club last won the championship in 2001 and were runners up in 2002 despite accruing more points than in their winning Championship season. Cricket has been played at Spofforth since the middle of the 19th Century and the Club was playing regular fixtures in 1902. Spofforth CC was a founder member of the Wetherby and District League in 1919 along with Clifford (now Bramham & Clifford), Kirk Deighton, Stockeld Park (now Sicklinghall), Thorp Arch & Boston Spa and Wetherby Cricket Clubs. The first Championship won by the Club was in 1922. The Club left the Wetherby League briefly either side of the Second World War joining the Harrogate League. We rejoined the Wetherby League in 1958 gaining promotion from the Reserve Division in 1960. Thus began the halcyon days of cricket at Spofforth and the Club won the Championship 9 times and were runners up 7 times between 1964 and 1987 - top two finishes 16 times in 23 years!

Competitions

As well as a team in division one the Second XI play in division 3 of the same league every Saturday and the Club enters all of the league's cup competitions.
In addition the club participates in the National Village Knockout Competition , the Harrogate and District Evening League and the Whixley Evening League on Thursdays. There is also a thriving Junior Section with teams at all ages from under 9 through to under 17. Last but by no means least is our Ladies Team which has again entered the Nidderdale Ladies League this season
